US Ambassador visited to Terai Dalit Concern Centre

His Excellency the US Ambassador, Mr. Peter W. Bodde, visited to one of our member organization Terai Dalit Concern Centre (TDCC), Bhairahawa, Rupendehi on 11th September 2013. His Excellency visited TDCC office at around 3pm. The TDCC board members and staff expressed their gratitude and warmly welcomed the Ambassador by offering him with flower garland. 

Soon after his arrival a short interaction meeting took place inside the TDCC hall. Due to security reasons the photographs and video shoots were prohibited. And also due to tight schedule the meeting was kept brief. Altogether only six people were present in the meeting including the ambassador himself and his two staffs; one interpreter and other controller. The two person from TDCC; president Mr. Budhiram harijan  and Program Coordinator, Mr. Rajendra Kumar Harijan were present. Ms Sabitra Pariyar, the national project coordinator of Voter Registration (VR) project   was present on behalf of DNF. 

His Excellency was more concerned about knowing the activities carried out by TDCC that were supported by USAID. He was more concerned to know about the target group that TDCC works for and also the achievements and progress made through its intervention. Beside that his concerns were also on whether TDCC works on women trafficking. He further expressed his concern on the current status of electoral issues among Dalits. The president of TDCC, Mr. Buddhiram Harijan, addressed most of the concerns expressed by His Excellency.  Ms Sabitra Pariyar updated on the VR project run in joint collaboration of DNF, IFES and USAID.

 She also shed light on the current status of electoral issues among Dalits. She handed over a brief note prepared on the regard to his Excellency for his kind reference. His Excellency after hearing from the hosts expressed his thanks and encouraged TDCC and DNF for specially working towards empowerment of backward communities like Madhesi Dalits and women and also emphasized the need to work towards prevention of women trafficking.
