KATHMANDU, MAR 22 -
Three community radio organisations,Association of Community Radio Broadcasters of Nepal, Association Of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal and Jagaran Media Center, have made an agreement with global network of broadcasters, the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters and AMARC Asia-Pacific, with an aim to fight all forms of discrimination, particularly caste-based and untouchability in the country. An understanding was signed to this effect on the eve of International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination marked on 21st March.
The three organisations will create awareness on various forms of discrimination and promote a more equitable, inclusive and accountable democracy, read a statement. They plan to work with other community radios in the country to broadcast specially produced programmes targeting discrimination.
Radio documentaries, reports, features, news items, call-in programs, interviews and road-shows will be part of the agreement.
Caste-based discrimination, highlighted by the Dalit movement, is considered one of the worst forms of prejudice in Nepal.
