2013-12-07, BAJHANG: As many as 15,000 people from the Dalit
community are yet to get citizenship cards in Bajhang and are deprived
of certain state facilities which can be availed only after producing
these certificates.
Dinesh Kumar Nepali, coordinator of a citizenship assistance project run by Sudhar Nepal, an NGO, said a total of 15,000 Dalits from many remote VDCs, including Kafalseri, Khiratadi, Deulikot and Lekhgaun, do not have citizenship cards with them.
Lack of awareness among the Dalits and negligence on the part of VDC secretaries are to blame, said Nepali. “In addition, many Dalit boys drop out of school and then head to India for work, ignorant about citizenship cards,” he said.
